AI News: The most important developments of the past week (April 13, 2026 – April 19, 2026)

Dear Community,

We receive news about new tools, security updates, and regulatory changes in the field of AI almost daily. For medium-sized businesses, it's often a challenge to keep track of all this and separate the wheat from the chaff.

This is precisely where we come in. As your bridge between science and practice, we filter the week's news and present you with the developments that are truly crucial for your competitiveness.

Here are the three most important topics of the past week:

1. Claude gets more precise: Anthropic releases Opus 4.7

On April 16, Anthropic made its new flagship model Claude Opus 4.7 generally available. It is the most capable model in the Claude family so far and is explicitly aimed at demanding, more complex tasks: longer workflows, precise instruction following, coding and tool use.

Opus 4.7 is available directly via the Anthropic API as well as through common enterprise platforms such as AWS Bedrock, Google Vertex AI and Microsoft Azure AI Foundry, which makes integration into existing corporate infrastructure easier.

For companies that already work with Claude or want to use it in internal workflows, Anthropic itself gives an important hint: the new model follows instructions much more literally than its predecessors. Prompts written for older Claude versions should therefore be reviewed and recalibrated if necessary, otherwise the results may be unexpected.

2. AI joins the design process: Anthropic launches Claude Design

One day later, on April 17, Anthropic introduced another tool, Claude Design, which is aimed less at developers and more at anyone who regularly creates visual deliverables. Claude Design helps create designs, prototypes, slides and one-pagers.

This is more than just another feature update. It is a sign of where frontier models are heading: away from pure text assistants and toward active co-creators of typical consulting and communication artifacts. Concept slides, visual drafts, quick prototypes: all of this is increasingly within AI's reach.

For medium-sized businesses, this means the effort required to create first drafts drops significantly. Initial presentations, concept papers or internal communication materials can be produced faster and at lower cost, provided that quality control remains in human hands.

3. AI meets science: OpenAI launches GPT-Rosalind

OpenAI has introduced a new model called GPT-Rosalind, named after the British scientist Rosalind Franklin, whose work contributed significantly to understanding the structure of DNA. The model is aimed exclusively at the life sciences industry: pharmaceutical companies, research institutes and biotech firms.

GPT-Rosalind was developed to address inefficiencies in an industry where approval of a new drug typically takes ten to fifteen years. The model supports researchers in generating hypotheses, synthesizing evidence, planning experiments and analyzing data, with multi-step reasoning across fields such as chemistry, genomics and protein research.

GPT-Rosalind is currently available as a research preview for qualified enterprise customers in the US via ChatGPT Enterprise, Codex and the API. Access is deliberately restricted: organizations must go through a qualification process that ensures the model is used exclusively for legitimate scientific purposes.

Our conclusion: This week shows impressively how broad the range of AI has become, from more precise language models to creative design tools and highly specialized research assistants. For companies, it is becoming increasingly important to know not only what AI can do in principle, but which tools are actually relevant to their own workflows.

As always, technology is the lever, but strategy determines success.
