AI News: The most important developments of the past week (April 20, 2026 – April 26, 2026)

Dear Community,

We receive news about new tools, security updates, and regulatory changes in the field of AI almost daily. For medium-sized businesses, it's often a challenge to keep track of all this and separate the wheat from the chaff.

This is precisely where we come in. As your bridge between science and practice, we filter the week's news and present you with the developments that are truly crucial for your competitiveness.

Here are the three most important topics of the past week:

1. AI that works on its own: OpenAI releases GPT-5.5

OpenAI has released GPT-5.5, and the model marks a clear step forward. Instead of answering individual questions, GPT-5.5 independently takes on multi-step tasks: from research and analysis to the finished document.

For companies, this means a noticeable simplification. Where every step previously had to be specified manually, you can now formulate a goal and receive the result. Measurable time savings are possible especially for recurring, time-consuming tasks such as market research, reports or summaries.

This further lowers the threshold for using AI productively. GPT-5.5 is no longer a tool you have to operate step by step. It is an assistant you can hand a task to.

2. Billions for AI: Amazon increases its stake in Anthropic

Amazon has increased its investment in Anthropic by another 25 billion dollars. This brings the total to more than 100 billion dollars, invested in jointly building AI infrastructure: data centers, chips and model development.

There is a clear strategic logic behind this: Amazon is securing a key position in the AI race while also gaining access to Anthropic's technology for its cloud services. For companies that use AWS, this means more powerful AI features in the medium term, directly in the tools they already use.

The scale of these investments shows that AI has long ceased to be an experimental technology. It is becoming basic infrastructure, like the internet twenty years ago.

3. Goal instead of prompt: Google's Project Jitro goes viral

While big model releases often only show their impact once in use, something different is happening with Google's Project Jitro: the autonomous AI agent is currently spreading on YouTube, Instagram and Reddit because what it shows opens up a new category. Jitro is given a goal and then takes care of everything else itself. No step-by-step intervention, no further prompts. The agent plans, researches, writes code, fixes errors and delivers results, autonomously, over hours or days. That is a different promise from previous AI assistants. For companies that want to automate repetitive development tasks or complex workflows, this is a concept worth keeping an eye on, even though broad availability is still pending.

Our conclusion: The common thread of this week can be summed up in four words: AI increasingly acts independently. GPT-5.5 handles complex tasks on its own without every step having to be specified. Jitro goes one step further and pursues goals autonomously over days. And behind all this are multi-billion investments that show this is no longer an experiment. It is the new infrastructure.

As always, technology is the lever, but strategy determines success.
